Integrated C–C coupling/hydrogenation of ketones derived from biomass pyrolysis for aviation fuel over Ni/Mg–Al–O/AC bifunctional catalysts

Aldol condensation of biomass-derives coupled with hydrogenation is a promising route for the production renewable aviation fuel. In this study, bifunctional catalyst was prepared to integrate aldol cyclopentanone and hydroprocessing fuel in one pot. Due its strong mild-basic sites, Mg–Al–O performed best total yield dimer trimer 80.4%. Nickel screened out be favorable hydrogenation. Considering unsatisfactory porous structure Ni/Mg–Al–O, activated carbon (AC) as carrier. With Ni loading 20 wt%, maximum targeted alkanes reached 81.1% over Ni/Mg–Al–O/AC. The calcination reduction temperature preparation process were both optimized at 550 °C. reusability test, reduced 31.6% 5th run. To attenuate hydration effect, n-pentane introduced solvent, Ni/Mg–Al–O/AC stably 5 runs. By design based on theoretical basis realize integration C–C coupling pot, it will promote development from biomass more sustainable green way.
